Reflections on Life and Death

August 7, 2016 Speaker: Cedric Moss Series: Ecclesiastes

Passage: Ecclesiastes 6:10– 7:14

Today, as we continue our sermon series in the book of Ecclesiastes, we come to a somewhat intriguing section of the book. The author of Ecclesiastes, who identifies himself as the Preacher, shares some challenging reflections about life and death. For example, he says, “It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go the house of feasting.” He also says, “Sorrow is better than laughter.” However, the truth is that we
would all rather attend a party than go to a funeral, and we all prefer laughter over sorrow. How then can the Preacher say that these things that we do not naturally prefer are better? Today’s message will consider this question.
